Monument to Camilo José Cela
A monument to the Padrón writer Camilo José Cela (Iria Flavia, 1916 – Madrid, 2002), Marquess of Iria Flavia, Honorary Citizen of Padrón and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The monument, designed by the sculptor Manuel Ferreiro Bahía, is divided into three parts: a stone base on top of which there is a bronze figure of the writer in a seated position, along with two spheres symbolising creation and knowledge.
The unveiling ceremony featured the presence of the Nobel Prize-winner’s widow, Marina Castaño, who was then president of the José Cela Foundation, and the Regional Minister for Culture, Jesús Pérez Varela, ending with a symbolic flower offering in memory of the writer.
