Banco dos Namorados

A long time ago, in the Artistic Botanical Garden, next to the statue of Macías O Namorado and under the “Lovers’ Tree,” there was a simple wooden bench where couples would go to express their affection for each other.

One day, without knowing why, this bench was eliminated and Padrón suffered the lost. In 2010, a grassroots initiative led by Fernando Castaño successfully campaigned for another new bench. After several months of work, Fernando Castaño made an original wooden piece ornamented with different elements that had been proposed by the locals. The new bench was put on display in a shop located in Macías Square, and when enough money was raised by Padrón’s residents, a new bronze bench was created.

Since February 2011, the Artistic Botanical Garden in Rosalía de Castro’s hometown has once again featured its mythical Lovers’ Bench.
