Winter in Padrón

A liturgical act commemorating the arrival of the Apostle James’ remains in Iria Flavia from Palestine. The mayor invokes the Apostle James on behalf of Padrón.

A parade around Padrón’s old town that features floats with the Three Wise Men, starting from A Matanza (Picusa factory).

The parade visits the Living Crib in the Parish Church of Santiago de Padrón and goes along several streets until it reaches the place called Campo do Souto, which features the Three Wise Men’s box where they receive all the children and give them a gift.

The main day of the Carnival celebrations in Padrón. A large parade and fancy dress competition, featuring floats and bands, whose quality and participants are increasing year after year. There are 6 categories of participants: single child, single adult, couple, groups of up to 20, groups of more than 20 and a local group of more than 10 members. More than €4,000 in prize money is awarded.

Galician- or Spanish-language story contest; the stories (from 12 to 25 pages) must be original, unpublished and not previously the winner of any other type of award. There is €1,500 in prize money (an income tax deduction applies).

A foot race with school and adult categories. The official race features a 10-km circuit endorsed by the RFEA, which consists of two laps of a 5-km circuit, starting and ending at Campo do Souto.

A cultural celebration commemorating the birthday of the universal writer linked to Padrón, Rosalía de Castro (Conxo, February 24, 1837 – Padrón, July 15, 1885). The events programmed for this day feature a flower offering to the sculpture of Rosalía de Castro in Paseo do Espolón.

In connection with this day, different activities and events are held throughout the month, such as plays, storytelling and concerts.
