Tour of Padrón

You can choose the best way to enjoy Padrón… In the Tourist Office and on this website, as well as in the app, you will find enough information to do so on your own. However, you can also request the contact information of local tourist guides to accompany you on your tour.

We recommend a quick itinerary that you can extend in this section or by following the indicated links.

You can start at the Padrón Tourist Office. Just opposite, you will find a sculpture that depicts our town’s main icon. On the left, you will see Campo do Souto, the place where the Sunday Market is held, and the Plaza de Abastos (Food Market). Then there is the Espolón walkway and the Convent of El Carmen on the other side of the River Sar. In the background, the Parish Church of Santiago with the “Pedrón” in its interior. On the right, you can continue through the historic district, where you will an extensive range of shops that sell our gourmet products

You can walk along the street called Calle de Juan Rodríguez, which features a plaque indicating the house where Rosalía de Castro lived, opposite the small Franciscan Church of San Antonio. After a stroll around these streets, you can head towards Avenida de Compostela to see one of Padrón’s treasures: the Artistic Botanical Garden featuring numerous literary and, of course, botanical elements.

Padrón’s two museums are just a 5-minute walk away: the Camilo José Cela Foundation in the of village of Iria, opposite the Church of Santa María a Maior de Iria; and the Rosalía de Castro House-Museum, opposite the Train Station on the road to Herbón.

If you have your own transport, we recommend visiting Herbón: the place where our peppers originated. There you can enjoy a small walk along the Pepper Route, which goes around the Franciscan Convent of San Antonio Herbón with its hundred-year-old oak grove. During you stroll, you will pass by the Romanesque Church of Santa María and the pesqueiras,” or weirs, used to catch lamprey in the River Ulla.

In order to round off your experience of visiting Padrón, we recommend enjoying a meal in one of our town’s restaurants, where you can savour our typical produce: Herbón peppers or lamprey (both in season), “pulpo á feira” (Galician-style octopus), Galician meat, fish and seafood from our coast… and, of course, purchase some of our recommended gourmet products.

For all these reasons, in Padrón, WE ARE #Caminoanddestination
